UNESCO’s School Network – United for Peace, Understanding, and Global Responsibility
The UNESCO Associated Schools Project (ASP) is a global education network established in 1953 with the aim of promoting international understanding, peace, and cooperation. Today, the network connects more than 8,000 schools and educational institutions in 122 countries—ranging from primary schools to teacher training colleges.
When a school joins the UNESCO ASP Schools, it commits to promoting UNESCO’s ideals and the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This commitment is reflected in the whole-school development approach, where all staff members actively engage in education for sustainable development, working together with students.
The goal is to empower children and young people to see themselves as sustainable actors capable of navigating a complex, globalized world.
The network works toward a sustainable future, where education plays a central role in strengthening human rights, cultural understanding, and global responsibility.
Denmark has been part of this network since 2004 and currently has 90 educational institutions engaged in UNESCO ASP.

Help Shape the Future – Become a UNESCO ASP School
UNESCO ASP Denmark is part of UNESCO’s international strategy, focusing on the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals and global citizenship.
At the UN General Assembly in September 2015, all the world’s nations adopted 17 Global Goals aimed at making the planet more sustainable by 2030. The purpose of the UNESCO ASP network is to promote and integrate these goals into education. Teaching can be based on themes such as human rights, global citizenship, intercultural competence, and sustainable development.
As a UNESCO ASP member, your school commits to participating in an annual national network meeting and general assembly, as well as supporting UNESCO ASP’s strategy.
